“Nothing creates a better return on investment than onboarding the right employees over a period of time.”
– Neil Timmins
Neil Timmins has been in real estate for nearly two decades and is committed to establishing a lasting legacy through his work as a real estate investor and mentor. He started as a traditional real estate agent and later transitioned to full-time real estate investing.
Neil encountered the same problem many new investors face while building his real estate investing business. After getting started, Neil's real estate investing business took off rapidly, allowing him to do between 100 – 150 deals per year. However, he could not turn his job in real estate into a scalable business without bringing a team onboard.
At this point, Neil did all the research possible to find out how to build the best team for his real estate investing business. However, most of the literature he found was written for Human Resource practitioners in Fortune 500 Companies.
Neil then began to design and implement his own recruitment process to meet the particular needs of a rapidly growing Real estate investing business. Over the years, and with much trial and error, Neil established a very robust standard operating procedure (SOP) to recruit top talent for his real estate investing enterprises. In line with his desire to establish a legacy as a real estate investor, he decided to share his experience and tools with others in his book, Unicorn Hunting for Real Estate Investment Companies, How to Easily Attract, Screen, and Land a Unicorn The Complete Hiring Funnel.
Tips to hire the best people for your real estate investing business
According to Neil, the essential thing that you need to do to create the right team to serve your business is:
1. Know who you are:
One of the first steps that any business leader needs to take when starting a new enterprise is to identify the core values that the business will be built upon. Once you know what your core values are, you will be able to find people who resonate with those core values, which will allow you to build a homogenous corporate culture. If a team member does not share your core values, there will be disruption to your business at every level.
2. Know what you do:
If you want to set your team up for success, you need to know what your business is trying to achieve in the short, medium, and long term. You can then identify what skills and talents will be needed to achieve your goals.
If you want to hire the right people, you need to know what direction you are taking your business in. Only then can you establish if the candidate's skills, experience, and disposition are the correct match to take you where you want to go.
If you are in the process of scaling your land investing business and are looking for the best standard operating procedures for building out your team, Neil's Unicorn Hunting for Real Estate Investment Companies is must-read material.
